The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has awarded R-AHEC $5,981,450 to fund a rural broadband healthcare network as part of a Statewide initiative. R-AHEC will provide networking capabilities to connect about 40 healthcare facilities to provide access to specialty physicians and critical life-saving treatments, and to exchange electronic medical and imaging data. This grant is part of the FCC-funded rural healthcare pilot program, which will fund 69 projects nationwide up to 85% of the costs associated with the design, engineering, and construction of broadband healthcare networks to improve access to healthcare in rural areas.
